Classes are inspired by the Baptiste
Method of Power Vinyasa yoga
People come to yoga for many different reasons. You
might be hoping to become stronger or more flexible. You might be an
athlete who needs to cross train and reverse some of the damage present in
those areas you over train. You might be a mom wanting to get back in
shape. You might simply be overworked, overtired, living a high stress
lifestyle and be looking for a way to relax. Maybe you're carrying a lot
around with you from your past and you would like to begin shedding that
weight.
You've heard right...
you can receive all these benefits from a regular yoga practice. But
you'll discover so much more.
Traditional yoga is more
than a class involving physical work. If at this moment you are in need
of physical change, then come to classes for that need... it's very difficult
to foster an awareness at a deeper level if your body is uncomfortable.
Beyond the physical,
yoga is a system of practices such as pranayama (breath/energy work), yama
& niyama (ethics), pratyahara (withdrawal from the senses), and meditation
techniques, all with a very specific aim... to help you cleanse and clear.
That can sound intimidating depending of what spiritual climate you grew up in.
Suggesting that we need to 'cleanse' or 'clear' can bring up guilt-filled
memories of discourses on sinfulness and intimations that we are not good
enough. However, there's another way to think of this.
We were all born pure embodiments of Divine expression... open conduits through
which Spirit flows. Over the course of our lives, this conduit becomes
clouded by fear, competitiveness, anger, and our minds have become focused on
either struggling to produce results we desire or orchestrating circumstance to
avoid those we don't desire. Although ever present, Spirit is no longer
flowing freely through us... we are less receptive to the Grace surrounding us.
The purpose of yogic practice is to cleanse and clear away this excess activity
of the mind (ego). It is in this Stillness that we have direct experience
and awareness of communion with the Divine. This life changing awareness
is the highest goal of yoga.
